One of the
situations I am often faced with is fishing muddy water. Bass being
predominately sight feeders don’t normally bite well in extremely muddy water.
But, they will bite because no matter what the water conditions they still must
eat.
My go to
bait when fishing muddy water is the jig. A jig is a bulky type bait which a
bass can easily find if fished in the right places. Dark colors such as black
or blue will almost always work better than lighter colors in muddy situations.
When the
water is muddy or heavily stained, I like to throw jigs in and around wooden
cover such as lay downs or brush piles. I fish the jig as close to the cover as
possible. Bumping the wood helps the fish locate the bait and sometimes produces
violent strikes. This is a good time to fish a jig that has a built- in rattle.
So, the next
time you’re faced with a muddy water trip, pack plenty of jigs and trailers and
you should do fine. You guys stay safe on the water.
